SALEM Pipeline

Salem’s finally getting bikey again with a huge race around the Capitol. Restoring a tradition from the 1800′s, the Capitol Cup Criterium brings hundreds of bikers to circle the Capitol building all day Saturday, competing for prizes and bragging rights. After a 100 year absence, it’s great to see bikes racing downtown. We’re looking for more!

No April Fool’s joke – Salem gets a weekly alternative newspaper starting in May. AP Walther, publisher of Salem Monthly, has been planning Salem Weekly for a while and we’re excited that he’s taking this huge next step for Salem’s growth. A huge toast to AP, Shawn and Kendra for all their hard work for Salem.

There’s a film crew shooting a documentary about Salem guitarist John Fahey and they’re asking around for stories or items of interest about his life. This is another example of incredible talent here in Salem and the Toronto-based production company shooting the doc is enthused about The project and Salem.

Cherry City Music Festival has released their schedule with more than 110 bands playing throughout downtown next Thursday through Saturday. Pay attention to the Pipeline next week for your chance to win all-access wristbands or a Cherry City Scion VIP package for the event.

Western Oregon University thespians have been cranking out some worthy productions and by all reviews, Reefer Madness raises the bar once again. Take the 20 minute drive through beautiful Polk County this weekend and catch the show. For those who prefer hot girl-on-girl action get to the Oregon State Pavilion on Saturday for the Banshee Brawl, the second hometown bout of the Cherry City Derby Girls. They take on the Sick Town Derby Girls from Albany-Corvallis.
If it’s anything like last October’s show, you’d better get there early if you want to see the action. The half time band is Man Over Board, from Eugene.

March brings a few changes to Salem Pipeline. We finally put a back end on the data entry and launched a shared calendar on the site. This means that you can now see what’s happening weeks in advance and SUBMIT YOUR OWN EVENTS!
