Two great shows on Tuesday

March 2nd, 2010 admin No comments

Salem is slowly becoming a desired stop on the indie music map. Last year, K Records owner Calvin Johnson convened his label-mates in Salem for the Cherry City music Festival. Jeremy Jay just returned from Europe, Hive Dwellers from Japan, Chain and the Gang had recently debuted and Arrington De Dionyso came solo from Old Time Relijun for some Tuvalu throat singing. They all performed at the Reed Opera House and raved about Salem and its cool downtown. Even Frenchman Angelo Spencer and Canadian stalwarts Mecca Normal joined in the festivities during the weekend.
They were all very gracious and provided a glimpse of Salem’s future as indie-friendly and a cheap, satisfying date.

Part of that train pulls through town tonight at the Space and you should be there. Check out the line up here. Hopefully, we can make it to the last band before the neighbors spoil the party.

More into comedy? Check out Pee Pants Comedy at Duffy’s Hangar. This is the debut of comedy at Duffy’s and should be good. They.re offering an open mic after the show if you think you can do better than the comedians.

Two years of special Space

What began as a love affair with live music and the Salem community has blossomed into Salem’s living room. The Space, Doug Hoffman’s contribution to the Salem music scene turns two years old today and is growing stronger by the week. It’s tough to pick my favorite show but the Grand Duchy premiere and Saturday night at the Cherry City Music Festival ( when we cleaned him out of beer) definitely rank. Here’s to many more memories yet to come in Doug’s labor of love. Prost!
