Reefer Madness, Banshee Brawl take center stage 100+ concerts, parties events in Salem March 4-10

March 4th, 2010 admin No comments

Western Oregon University thespians have been cranking out some worthy productions and by all reviews, Reefer Madness raises the bar once again. Take the 20 minute drive through beautiful Polk County this weekend and catch the show. For those who prefer hot girl-on-girl action get to the Oregon State Pavilion on Saturday for the Banshee Brawl, the second hometown bout of the Cherry City Derby Girls. They take on the Sick Town Derby Girls from Albany-Corvallis.
If it’s anything like last October’s show, you’d better get there early if you want to see the action. The half time band is Man Over Board, from Eugene.

March brings a few changes to Salem Pipeline. We finally put a back end on the data entry and launched a shared calendar on the site. This means that you can now see what’s happening weeks in advance and SUBMIT YOUR OWN EVENTS!

We’ll still be posting every Thursday for the weekend’s best outings. Let’s get networked!

Two great shows on Tuesday

March 2nd, 2010 admin No comments

Salem is slowly becoming a desired stop on the indie music map. Last year, K Records owner Calvin Johnson convened his label-mates in Salem for the Cherry City music Festival. Jeremy Jay just returned from Europe, Hive Dwellers from Japan, Chain and the Gang had recently debuted and Arrington De Dionyso came solo from Old Time Relijun for some Tuvalu throat singing. They all performed at the Reed Opera House and raved about Salem and its cool downtown. Even Frenchman Angelo Spencer and Canadian stalwarts Mecca Normal joined in the festivities during the weekend.
They were all very gracious and provided a glimpse of Salem’s future as indie-friendly and a cheap, satisfying date.

Part of that train pulls through town tonight at the Space and you should be there. Check out the line up here. Hopefully, we can make it to the last band before the neighbors spoil the party.

More into comedy? Check out Pee Pants Comedy at Duffy’s Hangar. This is the debut of comedy at Duffy’s and should be good. They.re offering an open mic after the show if you think you can do better than the comedians.

K Records, Chicken Revolution highlight 75+ events, parties concerts in Salem February 25-Mar 3

February 25th, 2010 admin No comments

Indie record label K Records joins with In the Red for a monumental show at The Space on Tuesday, March 2. Tough to know how they’ll squeeze all that fun in there but I’d recommend buying advance tickets at Ranch Records so you won’t be left begging for a spare at the door. Ian Svenious fronts Chain and the Gang, Calvin Johnson fronts Hive Dwellers and Strange Boys joins for added extra pleasure with locals Sexy Water Spiders and Blacklights.
Also, the 7th Mid-valley Video Festival ambles through town at ƒ/stop Fitzgerald’s, Northern Lights Theatre Pub and Capital Community Television studios with dozens of local and international independent films.
get it while it’s hot!

Two years of special Space

February 15th, 2010 mobi No comments

What began as a love affair with live music and the Salem community has blossomed into Salem’s living room. The Space, Doug Hoffman’s contribution to the Salem music scene turns two years old today and is growing stronger by the week. It’s tough to pick my favorite show but the Grand Duchy premiere and Saturday night at the Cherry City Music Festival ( when we cleaned him out of beer) definitely rank. Here’s to many more memories yet to come in Doug’s labor of love. Prost!
